It’s hard to believe it, but I now have over 500 on my Patreon! I actually hit this milestone a few weeks ago and in all the chaos of life it passed me by. To be precise, this will be my 512th post to Patreon since I started in April 2016. We’ve been on a rollercoaster of activist causes, legal battles and kinky fun, and I don't intend to stop any time soon. Here’s a highlight reel of some of my favourite moments over the last four years.
April 2016 - Did a week of research and sent a ten thousand word response to the Government consultation on age verification - as long as my MPhil thesis!
June 2016 - Gave interviews to dozens of publications including The Guardian and The Independent about winning my legal appeal, and Ofcom’s ruling to allow my porn site Dreams of Spanking, to reopen after being criminalised the previous year.
October 2016 - Co-organised and hosted the Backlash Kink Olympixxx at the Houses of Parliament to protest the Digital Economy Bill
November 2016 - I had my first Guardian byline, writing about the harmful impact of the Digital Economy Bill on people with marginalised sexualities and the niche porn sites that cater to them
January 2017 - I began working in an official capacity with Backlash, the UK organisation that defends freedom of sexual expression among consenting adults in UK by providing legal, academic and campaigning advice
January 2018 - Filmed a report with Sky on age verification and MindGeek
April 2018 - Guest of Honour at London Porn Film Festival 2018
January 2019 - I was invited onto BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour to talk about the Crown Prosecution Service updating their guidelines on the Obscene Publications Act to decriminalise depictions of consensual BDSM. Write up here
April 2019 - I was featured on BBC Newsnight talking about age verification - a final flurry of campaigning activity two months before the policy was canned
April 2020 - Nine months after giving birth, I completed the first draft of my book.
These are just a few of the things I’ve been able to do thanks to the support of my patrons. To those of you who have been here since the beginning, and you know who you are, thank you. You’ve seen me through hard times and massive wins, and I’m so happy to have your support.
Here’s to another four years - and another 500 posts! I’ll keep writing until my fingers seize up and my hands fall off, so for as long as you want to read I will always have something for you. Hopefully, the next big thing you’ll be able to read will be my book. Watch this space...
