Versatile bloggers

I’m having a cranky, doom-mongering, post-viral, pre-menstrual, oh-god-my-website-might-not-launch-before-Christmas sort of day. So right now, I’ll take any little spark of positivity I can get. Even silly blog meme positivity. Why not be arbitrarily nice to each other at this rubbish time of year? Better than being arbitrarily horrible, right?

Anyway, when Fred listed my blogs not once, but twice in his Versatile blogger award post, it brought a smile to my cold-ridden little face. Apparently I’m a “very clever lady” andDreams of Spanking is “going to be the next big thing in spanking porn”. Whee! Well, that’s sorted then. No more worrying for me! ;)

Having been given a smile by this small act of kindness by a fellow blogger, the least I can do is pass it on. Thanks Fred for the compliments, your faith in me and your good wishes. I’ll try to live up to them!

Now, according to the rules of this little compliment-a-thon, I have to: share seven things about myself; pass this award along to 15 blogs I enjoy reading; and contact my chosen bloggers to let them know about the award.

Here goes, then! Seven things you probably didn’t know about me:

1. I went to the gym today even though I’m still suffering from a cold, and felt like a total hero, but I’ve been wiped out and useless since I got back, so maybe it wasn’t a great idea.

2. My large, fluffy, heavy calico cat is currently sitting on my shins.

3. I’m completely obsessed with the BBC ‘Frozen Planet’ series and am watching every new episode on iPlayer as soon as it comes out. Penguins! Polar bears! Ice caves! Frozen waterfalls! Aurora Borealis! Fucking brine-icles! Trust me, it’s astounding.

4. I’m really nervous about Christmas this year because I’m completely skint and don’t know how I’m going to manage gifts. Ideas for low-cost, crafty, creative presents appreciated.

5. I haven’t used shampoo or conditioner for two years. I wash my hair in bicarbonate of soda and apple cider vinegar every 7-10 days, and do water washes inbetween. My fine, grease-prone hair is the shiniest and healthiest it’s ever been – plus it’s cheaper, and better for the environment, too.

6. I mostly read sci-fi and fantasy novels, but I have zero patience for sexism in books at the moment, so I’m immersing myself in books by female/feminist authors. Bonus is that they also tend to be sex-positive and interested in intercultural stuff, as well as having, you know, useful characters who are actually female. Recommendations: Tanya Huff, Elizabeth Moon, Charles de Lint, Mercedes Lackey, Charles Stross, Cory Doctorow.

7. Since moving in with D I haven’t suffered from insomnia at all – for the first time in my life. I think he generates a sleep field of some kind. I wish I could bottle it and carry it with me forever.

Right, enough of that. Onto the people I think are awesome. In no particular order, these are the bloggers I think are versatile, fabulous, and whose new posts light up my feed:

  1. Erica Scott of Life, Love and Spanking. A refreshingly honest, sharp, down-to-earth blog from a legend among spanking models. Erica’s a great storyteller, she pulls no punches and has the sharpest wit in the business.
  2. Adele Haze of Spanking Model Speaks. Funny, direct, fearlessly political, with an enviably succinct turn of phrase, this was the first blog I ever read by a spanking model. It’s gone quiet right now, but twitter has rumours of a relaunch – I’m waiting with bated breath.
  3. Indy of Not So Submissive. Fresh political writing, warm, empathic scene reports and incisive kinky analysis.
  4. Quai of Spanking Discussion. Original, neatly turned spanking stories with interesting psychological twists which are practically guaranteed to get me wet.
  5. Mija of El Tercer Ojo. Challenging, honest writing about kink, punishment, mental health and real life. Hauntingly powerful fiction, too.
  6. Zille Defeu of Zille’s Fetish Fantasies. A talented lady with many strings to her bow; a kinky porn pioneer; positive and generous, always finding the best in things. Zille feels like a kindred spirit in the way she approaches her personal kink; I can only hope to walk in her footsteps when it comes to the professional stuff.
  7. Holly of the Pervocracy. This is one of the must-read blogs on kink, sex and feminism, and her ruthless mocking of Cosmo magazine always makes me cackle.
  8. Ludwig and Kaelah of the Rohrstock Palast. Warm, gentle, always thoughtful and seeking out truth, I love reading this couple’s explorations of kink.
  9. Ariel Anderssen/Amelia Jane Rutherford. Talented, graceful and ever diplomatic, Ariel has lots of skills I have yet to learn, but I think the biggest blog-related ones are her lightness of touch, and the way she always seems to know exactly how seriously to take things.
  10. MayMay of Maybe Maimed and Male Submission Art. Sometimes unsympathetic; usually right. Do not read unless you want your head to be blown wide open with the realisation of how fucked up society is. Yes, even the kinky bits. In some ways, especially the kinky bits.
  11. Maggie Mayhem: playful, radical, this lady knows what’s important in life. Whether she’s working as a sex educator, fucking on camera or hiking in the woods, I reckon she has her priorities in order.
  12. Kitty Stryker. A kinky, curvy, entirely awesome sex worker and educator who isn’t afraid to call people on their shit.
  13. Dave of Spanking4Men and the Cherry Red Report. Has a keen eye for the hot and spankable – and stands out as a rare male blogger who doesn’t exclude on gender lines. As long as it’s cherry red, it’s all good with him – and I wholeheartedly agree!
  14. Paul at North Gare. Doesn’t post often, but every one’s a gem. Original, critical thinking on the psychology and politics of kink and kinky social systems. One of the very few male tops I know who’s unashamed of having the occasional switchy leaning, and not afraid to talk about it.
  15. Last but not least, Audrey Knight, a lady with a strong spanking arm and excellent taste in men and women. Can’t wait for the launch of her genre-busting new site Spanking360.

Right. Bedtime, and hoping tomorrow will seem brighter. Spread the love.

How to make me squeak

Recommended ways to make me squeak:

1. Hit me with a wooden ruler. Preferably low, on the sit spot, when I’m not expecting it.

2. Put me at #37 in a prestigious list of 100 sex bloggers.

Eeeee!

I’m absolutely thrilled to be named among such fabulous company as fellow kinksters, queer and feminist legends, well known writers, community organisers, friends and familiar faces such as:

Browsing the list to see how many names I recognised also gave me the chance to check out some new (to me) sex bloggers. Such as David in Vegas, who writes about D/S from a top’s perspective. Check out this astonishing 98-word short fiction piece, Red:

Like so many times before, she sat intent on his voice, “Ten.” All tangled up in herself, legs clenched, “Nine.” Breasts squeezed tightly, wrapped in the deepness of his voice, “Eight.” Her stomach in a knot, cramping, “Seven.”

Growling, tossing the headphones aside, still hearing his commands, “Six.” His voice taunting her, hyper-attuned, each breath twisting her arousal tighter, “Five.” Fire burning, hot, damp, nipples throbbing, aching, “Four.”

Yanking the headphone jack out, still hearing, “Three.” Her fingers plugging her ears, shaking her head, “Two.” Her legs twisted, burning thighs, suddenly in pained delight, ready, “One.” Then, Now!!

Love Our Lurkers VI

Happy Love Our Lurkers day! Once a year, spanking bloggers across the world unite in welcoming those who read our blogs, but don’t tend to join in the conversation in the comments.

We know you’re out there. We can tell from our hits that you’re there, you’re interested, you keep coming back. We also know that you vastly outnumber those people who leave comments and tell us a little about themselves. And that’s okay. Commenting isn’t compulsory, and it can be really hard to know what to say. Especially when you’re reading a sex or spanking blog, with their often very intimate contents. Leaving a comment, sometimes, can feel intimidatingly personal as well. Even leaving a comment on a spanking blog can feel like standing up and publically telling the world what you find hot … and for some people, what’s private is best kept that way.

Well, we understand. Many of us started out as lurkers too – reading, fascinated, a bit envious of those who chatted so freely with writers we admired, but lacking the confidence to start typing and join in the conversation.

What you realise as soon as you take the plunge is that every blogger loves comments. We depends on our commenters. Without them, any blogger will eventually stop writing and give up. Comments are the feedback we get that proves we aren’t just talking to ourselves; that makes the time we spend on blogging feel worthwhile. The people chattering away in the comments can seem like an exclusive sort of clique of people who all know each other – but actually, for the most part, we all met online, and we wouldn’t have done so if we hadn’t left that first comment. It’s a club which anyone can join. The only criterion for membership is saying hello.

So this is my invitation. I know you’re there. I love that you’re there: your interest in what I have to say is what keeps me going. And as a result, I’m interested in you. If you’ve never left a comment before, please, today is the time to do so. It’s easy. You don’t have to try to be clever or interesting or sexy. Just tell me you’re here, tell me how you are if you like, what you dreamed last night, what you have planned for the evening. Just by saying hello, you’ll be interesting to me.

PS. I also have a delurk invitation on my Dreams of Spanking blog – including an offer of a free high resolution spanking photograph from a never-before-seen set if I get at least dozen comments. We’re halfway there already – please, if you’d like to join in, please do pop over and say hello there as well! I’m open to suggestions about what sort of image you’d like to see, but you only get a vote if you speak up :)

The Spanking Collection

Today is a special day; one I’ve been awaiting for months. The Spanking Writers, Abel and Haron, are launching their anthology collection of spanking stories by twenty bloggers and writers, the proceeds from which will all be donated to cancer research. It’s an ambitious, generous project, and I know they’ve both poured huge amounts of time and energy into it.

It’s also personally exciting to me, because they were kind enough to invite me to contribute a story, and the opportunity prompted me to write my first ever piece of ‘proper’ spanking fiction (blog posts don’t count).

The authors include some of my favourite writers – I am particularly looking forward to reading Casey Morgan, Graham Grey and Paul Bailey‘s contributions. I couldn’t wait to read the stories by Penny Docherty and Zille Defeu, which was lucky because both of them let me have a sneak peek. Both lived up to my high expectations – in very different ways.

My own story started life as a somewhat wry take on the royal wedding, which was all you could hear about at the time I was writing, and evolved into a far more in-depth piece than I’d imagined. My initial intention was to explore the complexities of consent by setting the stage for the semi-consensual punishment of a strong minded character. To make things more interesting the punishment is a judicial, ceremonial one; and the backdrop for the scenario is an arranged marriage – to which my princess entirely consents.

The punishment itself is not, initially, consensual. She is more tricked into it than forced, but in the end she chooses to go along with events wholeheartedly for varied reasons of her own.

Other things which may interest you about it: it’s a spanking story based in a Fantasy setting (I haven’t heard of many people doing this apart from Haron herself, but as an avid reader of fantasy it’s a genre fusion I’ve always been rather keen on), and none of the characters in it are white. I had almost as much fun with the world building as I did with the caning sequence itself.

This is a one-off opportunity to read not only my first ever story in print (yay!), but exclusive stories by a lot of well-known kinky authors. Every contribution to the project, including that of Abel and Haron themselves, is unpaid, and the whole thing is for an extremely good cause. It’s available in paperback and a variety of ebook formats. Please do consider buying a copy for yourself or a friend, and if you do, let me know what you think!

Watch your step – don’t click this.

What makes me a woman? - It’s a stumper, this question. There must be something that makes me a woman. Something more than how I am perceived by others as I walk down the street. But what is the answer?

Baggage: An InventoryEveryone brings bags with them. My goal is to carry my own bags. I’ll let people help me shed them, but I will never let them carry them. Those bags are my own to, well, own.

There’s pain and then there’s pain (and then there’s pain) -Part of what I crave in the second type of pain is the selfish sadism of the partner who continues despite my pleas. He does it because it arouses him, and he does it because I’ll endure it for him.

What Is Gender?Playing with dolls and preferring the color pink doesn’t make you a girl anymore than chewing on a bone makes you my dog.

Sex Toys: Single or Partnered, there is no shame in owning themThere’s no fucking shame in owning your sexuality, in taking control of your own damn orgasm. Can you PREFER human contact and partnered sex to sex toys? Sure. You can prefer whatever the fuck you want. But don’t insinuate to me that owning a lot of sex toys is somehow bad or shameful.

Bye bye Blogger, and hello freedom

You’ll have noticed that earlier this year, Google saw fit to whack a compulsory “content warning” on my blog, forcing all viewers to click through a page informing them that “some readers of this blog have contacted Google because they believe this blog’s content is objectionable”. I’m not sure what annoyed me more: the fact that unlike the self-selected Adult Content Warning, this was externally controlled; the fact that in a single day, my hits dropped to 1/3 of what they had been, and haven’t recovered since; or the weasel wording in which Google saw fit to inconvenience my readers while disclaiming any prejudice or opinion on their part.

The disclaimer is, frankly, bullshit. Of course Google side with those who believe that adult content, or kinky content, is “objectionable”. That’s why Google Ad Words aren’t permitted on adult blogs; why Google Checkout doesn’t permit any use by adult service providers (my account was suspended after I used it to accept payment for a spanking audio story. The filename was totally innocuous, so either one of their employees sat down and listened to the mp3 to see if it was “safe” or not, or else they judged me on the basis of my blog contents).

The only reason I stayed with Blogger so long was lack of time to setup a new blog elsewhere. This new content warning pushed the move higher up my priority list. And I can now, not before time, happily announce that this blog has moved permanently to a self-hosted, independent home.

I haven’t quite arranged everything to my satisfaction yet, and will be adding more pages, widgets and links over the next little while, so bear with me if anything seems unfinished. But it’s good enough to get going. Please update your bookmarks, links and feed readers to point to my new url, www.pandorablake.com.

So bye bye Blogger, Google and your discrimination against adult content, and hello, independence.
