Spanking fanfiction

Posted at 16:06 on 12 Nov 2013 by Pandora / Blake

Remus writes fanfiction by corilefayLike many women with access to the internet in their teens and early twenties, I am a reader of fanfiction. For a few years of my life it was my primary source of porn - before I discovered how much awesome video porn is out there, anyway. Long before I was old enough, or confident enough to buy site memberships with a credit card, I could read freely available wank material written by fellow fans about characters I knew and loved. Fanfic is safe, it's created by likeminded fans, and best of all to a teenage girl, it's free.

In fact the fanfiction community has several points of overlap with the open source, FOSS and Creative Commons communities, and as a cultural phenomenon I think it's fascinating, and doesn't deserve the juvenile reputation it has in some circles. At its core, fanfiction is an outpouring of sexually explicit fantasy material by young women, written for each other, on their own terms, in their own language. It is a form of media without any commercial interests, undertaken for the love of it. Fanfiction is typically, but by no means exclusively, centred around male/male fantasies. A large, perhaps disproportionate amount of it is kinky. In my opinion it absolutely deserves to be included in the conversation about female gaze or feminist pornography.

I hadn't read much of it for years, spanking video having somewhat dominated my attention in the meantime. Until I noticed that the latest person to join Dreams of Spanking had an email address @ FicWriter.com. Intrigued, I had a look.

Male spanking showcase #2

Posted at 22:48 on 2 Feb 2012 by Pandora / Blake

As you were so tolerant of my last spanked men picture post, I'm going to indulge myself and do another one. I like looking at boys' bottoms and I don't see many of them on the usual round of spanking blogs. Who knows, maybe we can start a trend.

Mmmm, dramatic cane welts.

Mike may have skipped class, but he still has my sympathy: bathbrushes are EVIL. Especially when wielded by daddy. (Reluctant Young Men)

Fiction and non-fiction

Click to view BBC footage of a boy's school cross country run from 1948

I dreamed the other night about reading an autobiography of some (fictional) well-known man. My dream, of course, focussed on his school experience. The most memorable part was his recollection of cross-country PE. Long runs through beautiful green English countryside in horrible grey English weather. Icy wind and stinging rain that raised goose-pimples on your bare legs below your scratchy white shorts. And a sadistic PE master who would wait for you at a turning point, cane in hand - ostensibly to prevent the boys from getting lost, but missing no opportunity to slash at you across your damp, chafing shorts to encourage you along.

Because this was a dream, the same PE master could be waiting at every crossroads, snug in his warm blazer, applying a cane stroke to the seat of a struggling boy every few minutes during a 3 mile cross-country run.

Schoolboys and aristocrats

Posted at 23:19 on 16 Sep 2011 by Pandora / Blake

I'd put a casting call up on my blog, but disappointingly, my inbox was not instantly flooded with requests for work from bright young things willing to shoot M/M spanking scenes. I received lots of emails from willing chaps over 40 who wanted to bottom to women, but lovely as I'm sure they were, none of them was really suitable for the scenes I had in mind.

In the end it was Twitter that solved my problem. I posted to the effect that I was looking for kinky young men willing to bottom on camera for CP films, and that I was offering competitive rates of pay, creative input and good times. Someone on my feed put me in touch with a friend of theirs. He didn't have a website, but he did have a link to a fetlife profile. I took one look at his photo gallery and was sold.

Wanted: male spanking performers

Posted at 20:27 on 16 Apr 2011 by Pandora / Blake

There's been some excellent discussion this week about discrimination among spanking afficionados, especially site owners and event organisers, against M/m couples and content. I haven't had the chance to engage with the debate yet, although you can probably imagine where I stand.

Conversation and debate are essential, but so are actions. Specifically, so are positive, creative actions; I'd rather make the porn I want to see than criticise other producers for not making it. I haven't had the time or energy to contribute to the blog discussion yet. But inbetween reading other people's comments I have been thinking about the fact that I intended to launch my site with some M/m video, and it's the one orientation I haven't shot yet. I would have by now, but suitable performers are thin on the ground. So this is my (initial) response to the discussion, in the hope that I will be able to effect change with actions rather than words.

Little Crackers

Posted at 22:17 on 10 Dec 2010 by Pandora / Blake

While I'm on the topic of M/m canings, Eliane posted an extremely tasty clip on twitter today. This is from a film coming out this Christmas starring Stephen Fry, which appears to be autobiographical in theme.

1969 - Christmas Term and twelve year-old Stephen Fry isnt popular with his headmaster; his sweet tooth, extensive vocabulary and sharp wit regularly earn him six of the best. Unhappy with the pitiful offerings of the tuck shop, Fry Secundus, as hes known, often ventures out of bounds to the village sweet shop. But when one trip to the confectioners too many catches up with young Stephen, and the headmaster threatens to exclude him from the Christmas festivities, Frys only hope lies with Bunce, the frightened new boy hes taken under his wing.

If that wasn't enough of an appetising setup, add this into the mix: the headmaster in question is played by Mr Fry himself, and the film appears to show him giving a stiff three of the best to his 12 year old self. Don't believe me? Check out this tantalising clip (sorry - the video isn't available to embed, but your clicking finger will thank you for making the effort.)

"The last boy to whom I administered twelve strokes of the cane is buried under that apple tree. Be advised. Now, bend over."

I am pleasantly shuddering with anticipation.

The magician's (other) apprentice

Posted at 22:45 on 9 Dec 2010 by Pandora / Blake

I've just received the images from one of the most exciting photostories we shot at the last stills shoot for my new site, with new photographer Daniel.

I knew that one of Adele Haze's favourite fantasies was a "magician's apprentice" scenario. We decided to shoot a set based on a story she was writing, in which the young male apprentice of a magician brings a wench home, with unexpected consequences. I wasn't modelling for this one, which left me free to direct - handy given the complexities of the narrative. It's a good 'un, though.

Our story begins with ceremonial magician Mr Sheridan, played by Thomas Cameron.

One night while out on the town, his young apprentice Giles (Jimmy Holloway) meets a girl called Sophie (Adele Haze). To impress her, he brings her back to his master's workshop.

Sophie is delighted, and soon she and Giles are engaged in some enthusiastic snogging in Mr Sheridan's chair. But as their kissing increases in passion, something very strange happens - all the candles in the room spontaneously burst into flame.

A moment later Mr Sheridan thunders in to investigate the cause of the magical flare which interrupted his very important working upstairs. He is not impressed to discover a strange woman in his secret workshop.

It was a real treat being able to bring Adele's fantasy to life - made even better by the fact that I persuaded Tom and Jimmy to do a rare M/m scene. They're such close friends in real life that it's not something they're usually comfortable doing, but they agreed to a formal, masculine six of the best for the sake of this scene. Much to the delight of me and Adele. She was enjoying herself so much that I had to crop her out of some of the photos due to her out-of-character lascivious grin - and she's posted some more photos of the caning on her own blog.

These are two of my very favourite boys, and I'm so thrilled that they had the guts to enact this scene to please us girls. Enjoy, ladies - it may not happen again, but I'm very happy I got to see it once at least!

This photostory, complete with an original fiction piece by Adele herself, will be available for download on my new site when it goes live sometime in the new year. But I'll post a sample from the second half before then. Jimmy and Sophie's ordeal isn't over yet - Mr Sheridan intends to get to the bottom of what caused the unexplained magical power surge, and he has a shrewd idea of where to look...

Spanking360 and male submission

Posted at 12:17 on 9 Sep 2010 by Pandora / Blake

I was intrigued to read on the Cherry Red Report about Audrey Knight's newest spanking project, Spanking360. Bravely, Audrey intends to take a similar approach to the one that I'm working on for my own site - combining F/m, F/f, M/f and (some) M/m under a single umbrella, with carefully calibrated browsing options so that people only see the content they're interested in. Audrey writes,

I dont see much male bottoming on major sites, and always wanted to see a little more. To make sure I keep a good balance of genres, I ran a poll on my blog, asking viewers to choose their top two favorite kinds of spankings (F/F, F/M, etc.) I found that F/F was tied with F/M, to my surprise, with M/F spanking popularity trailing behind, and a 5% vote for M/M spankings.

I know that many male tops are offended by seing male bottoms, so Ive devised a system to separate the male bottoming section from the female bottoming section and will include a tiny bit of non-gay M/M spanking there, too.

I thought I was the only producer considering such a step, so it's exciting and reassuring to me that Audrey agrees that the current norm of total segregation between femsub and malesub content is unnecessary - and thinks that the market will back her up. Here's a clip from her first M/m shoot:

I'm not sure what either of these models are called, but presumably we'll find out when the site goes live.

Seeing as I'm a big old queer who loves perving over two hot blokes together, I'm a little disappointed by the big "non-gay" disclaimers plastered all over the discussions of any M/m content - but I assume that this arises not from any prejudice on Audrey's part, but a simple recognition that some people are still uncomfortable with the idea of seeing two men together in a sexual way. As it happens, I think there's space for a lot more non-sexual M/m spanking content - the only quality material is currently found on gay sites, and so there's a gap in the market for restrained, formal, realistic punishment scenarios between, say, prefect/fag, headteacher/schoolboy, employer/boss or any of those other staples of femsub spanking porn which have no overt sexual interaction. But I wouldn't say no to seeing a little sexy stuff between the boys thrown in as well - and I suspect a lot of women and queer men will agree with me!

In the meantime, I'm excited by the promise of F/m content with a focus on D/s and loving domestic discipline as well as straight punishment:

The tone of this clip has a lot of potential, but I was very disappointed not to see Stefan's face once during the whole trailer. How are we meant to connect to him if we can't see his expression or look into his eyes? I'd have liked to see a little more reaction from Stefan as well, especially during the severe spankings - although we do get a tantalising glimpse of him kicking while OTK.

Of course, Spanking360 also promises loads of more traditional F/f and M/f content, and the list of models on their preview page is already impressive (although sadly excludes the male models featured in the above clips). Quibbles aside, I wish Audrey and her team every success. The more sites like this are prepared to buck the trend and include quality malesub content alongside scenes featuring female spankees, the healthier this industry will be.

M/m and gender equality in spanking porn

Posted at 16:19 on 18 Jan 2010 by Pandora / Blake

I saw the link to Indy's thought-provoking article on twitter this morning, but didn't have a chance to read it until I took a break from work at lunchtime. In the meantime, however, my brain was already firing up with my own thoughts on this topic - many of which you are already familiar with. Indy writes,

Most of the guys I know in the scene are utterly uninterested in M/M scenes of any kind, and would at a very minimum walk away if they saw one. The less tolerant among those men would be threatened by it and perhaps refuse to attend events sponsored by the organization. F/F scenes, though, are welcome, as these same men are quite happy to watch two women doing almost anything.

This question has been at the front of my mind lately. My original ambition for my new site was to publish high-quality M/m and M/mf spanking porn on the same site as all other orientations, in an attempt to appeal to the female and queer male audience which is so often invisibled by the industry. I have received a lot of strongly-worded advice from people who run their own sites, telling me that this will amount to a death sentence for my project unless the M/m material is partitioned off into its own site. Although it is my aim to produce female-gaze porn, realistically, the majority of paying customers are likely to still be male, and many of them will be put off for good by any whiff of M/m on a site they are browsing.

The tricky balance between idealism and realism is, until I launch and start seeing sales stats, purely speculative. However, my friends seemed likely enough to be correct that I started mentally preparing to separate my boysub material off into a separate site. However strong my ideal of a gender-egalitarian spanking site may be, if necessity dictates it become a gender-egalitarian network of sites instead, that's a compromise I can probably live with.

I am, however, acutely aware of the inequality and homophobia in this industry. I am currently trying to find a youngish, good looking male dominant actor who is willing to work with male subs, to help me realise some of my long-cherished M/m public school prefect fantasies. My first choice, of course, would be Tom - but topping, even on camera, is closely connected to his sexuality, and given he's straight, he's not comfortable working with another man, to my lasting regret.

Here's what I think:

  • Most spanking producers do not pay their male actors. I am a strong advocate of the idea that if you do not treat someone like a professional, you cannot expect professionalism from them (although you may get it anyway, if you have a good working relationship). Men are not paid for their work in spanking films because there is an expectation that they are motivated by personal gratification. Kinky men, statistically, have a far lower chance of finding a play partner than kinky women; men pay spanking professionals for sessions far more than women do. Appearing in a spanking film, it seems, is seen by many of an extension of the same trend. This attitude results in the perceived implication that a man spanking another man in porn must have personal reasons to do so - they must be sexually motivated.

Or course, women often have personal/sexual motivations for appearing in porn, and everyone has different boundaries. But if most women only wanted to appear in films with people they fancied the industry would grind to a halt, and the women in question would be condemned for their unprofessionalism. There is a clear double standard here, and I think it's bollocks. Acting with someone doesn't mean you fancy them - that's why it's called acting.

Also, I resent the implication that the men who have topped me on camera did so because it was the only way they'd get to spank me. That is really quite seriously creepy. I like to credit my toppy friends with a little more professionalism than that. I have this crazy idea that people make spanking porn because they are creatively motivated - they want to make something awesome. Most people get something personal out of it as well, but if sexual gratification is your only reason for being involved, you're going wrong somewhere.

  • Straight women are expected, throughout every sector of the adult industry, to act out sexual encounters with other women without this being seen to imply anything about their personal preferences. Why not men?

  • Female/female sex is included in anthologies of "straight" porn. In mainstream porn as in the rest of society, female queer experience is appropriated by straight men. I know when I'm out with a female partner, if we ever dare kiss in public we are likely to attract lecherous men asking if they can join in, or rudely taking photos on their cameras. Ironically, the same men who fetishise male-gaze lesbianism are usually opposed to equal rights and gay marriage.

The reverse is true in some media, such as fanfiction, where mostly female authors write male/male sex for their own enjoyment. (Although it's uncertain whether this counts as 'appropriation' in the same way; firstly, appropriation implies a position of privilege, which is less clearcut between straight women and gay men than between straight men and gay women. Secondly, about 50% of fanfic writers identify as queer.) Fanfiction is still marginalised; the female gaze is not yet mainstream in visual erotica. While most women enjoy watching M/m, most porn does not yet cater to women.

  • As long as men do most of the buying, the market has no choice but to cater to them. Women are still mostly content to get their online porn for free - a trend no doubt affected by the high proportion of women who prefer written erotica, which is very hard to charge for online. I've heard of a few lesbian or female gaze sites which carefully catered to the demands of their female audience, but struggled when that audience proved unwilling in practice to cough up and pay for the kind of porn they wanted. This leaves sites with a choice between going under, or catering to men. A lot of men are still violently put off by M/m, due to embedded homophobia and lack of understanding in our society - which the porn industry contributes to by expecting men to react homophobically. There is no reason why straight men shouldn't enjoy M/m in the same way that straight women enjoy F/f - identifying as one participant in a non-sexual punishment scenario, or enjoying the scenario in the abstract - but our culture teaches men to close their minds at an early age.

  • One area of crossover which could appeal to both women and men is gay porn. However, in the spanking scene, M/m when produced by and for men often takes on an extreme macho style, with minimal reactions from the spankee. This instantly makes the content less appealing to many women, who are more likely to seek out emotional expression, intimacy and vulnerability in erotica. This means that the M/m content which is out there is unappealing to women, and no-one is producing M/m for women because not enough women are willing to pay for it, and not enough men are willing to do it.

  • Our culture teaches both men and women that looking at female bodies is erotic. Women are taught to find female bodies visually stimulating and desirable regardless of their sexual orientation (consider, for example, the use of female bodies in adverts directed at women). The idea that no-one likes looking at male bodies is a deeply rooted cultural prejudice. It is also clearly bollocks because hello, male bodies can be gorgeous and most women enjoy looking at them in the flesh.

Many progressive individuals are working to change these factors, from talking to people about their ideas, to developing new ways of producing erotica. However, we are still in a minority even within our mostly-liberal little scene. Social inertia is very powerful; even if we are all working together to challenge received ideology and lazy or ignorant industry standards, it is likely to be a couple of generations before we can see true gender equality in visual erotica.

(Many thanks to CP Services London for the images. And a point to whoever recognises the cutie with the freckles in the third picture...)
