Oooooh. Cane bent over the cannon! Just the phrase sends shivers through me. I love naval stories, but pirates have an extra excitement - the outlaw aspect, the romantic independence, and of course the fact that a number of female pirates operated in history, so as a women the fantasy feels a bit more plausible than a Navy setting. Fiona Locke wrote an excellent story about a girl who joined the Navy disguised as a boy and was found out when she was subjected to this punishment. It's called Kissing the Gunner's Daughter and I think you can find it in an anthology called "Sex in Uniform" if you're interested.
